Glossary
Plain-English meanings of the terms used across this site.
Active thumbnail — The thumbnail of the photo currently shown in the main image. You can mark it with a border, an underline, a zoom or an opacity change. See General → Active thumbnail.
Alt text — A short text description of an image, read aloud by screen readers and used by search engines. Smart Product Gallery uses the image's title from the Media Library.
Autoplay — The gallery moving to the next photo on its own after a set interval. On by default, and controlled under Gallery Slider.
Block — A single piece of content in the WordPress editor, such as a paragraph, an image or a gallery. Smart Product Gallery adds one block, Product Gallery.
Block theme — A WordPress theme you edit visually in the Site Editor (Appearance → Editor), such as Twenty Twenty-Five. On block themes the gallery is placed through the Single Product template. See Block Themes.
Classic theme — A traditional WordPress theme customized under Appearance → Customize. On classic themes the gallery replaces FluentCart's automatically. See Classic Themes.
Featured image — The main image set on a product. It's the first photo in the gallery and the one shown in the shop.
FluentCart — The WordPress e-commerce plugin Smart Product Gallery works with. It handles your products, prices, cart and checkout.
Global settings — Settings that apply everywhere at once. All of Smart Product Gallery's settings are global: one configuration styles every product.
Lazy loading — Loading an image only when it's about to be seen, instead of all at once when the page opens. It makes pages faster.
Layout — The overall arrangement of the gallery: where the thumbnails go, or whether it's a slider, a grid or a scrolling column. There are eleven. See Layouts Overview.
Lightbox — A full-screen overlay that opens when a shopper clicks a photo, with the rest of the page dimmed behind it. See Lightbox.
Navigation — The previous and next arrows on the main image, and separately the arrows on the thumbnail strip.
Pagination — The indicator showing which photo you're on and how many there are, such as dots, numbers or a progress bar.
Quick view — FluentCart's pop-up on shop pages (the View Options button) for choosing a variation without opening the product page. Smart Product Gallery shows its gallery there too.
Shortcode — A short tag in square brackets, such as [smart_product_gallery], that WordPress swaps for real content when the page loads. It's useful in page builders. See Shortcode.
Site Editor — The visual editor for block themes, at Appearance → Editor, where you edit templates such as Single Product.
Slider — A gallery that shows one photo at a time and moves between them. Also the name of the layout that shows only the main image, with no thumbnails.
Template — A saved page layout used for every page of one kind. Single Product is the template block themes use for every product page.
Thumbnail — A small preview of a photo. Clicking or hovering one shows it in the main image.
Variation — One version of a product, such as a color, a size or a material. Each variation can have its own photos. See Variation Images.
Zoom — Magnifying part of a photo when the cursor moves over it. Four styles are available. See Image Zoom.
